Last night on hulu I was online watching explorer and they had a special on the development of babies.
Its really interesting, you get to know what processes are going on in the brain during development and everything.

The thing that got my attention was how we are "pre-programed"

For example the instant a baby is born they know the motions of how to walk.
The documentary also went to show other things we just automatically know how to do.

The scientist also explained how a brain is being wired during the first three years of ours lifes.

Were born with over 1 billion connections, and at first the connections are jerky and not tuned in. For the connections we do not use we simply lose, while other connections are being made stronger.

Long story short in those 3 yrs there is a crucial use it or lose it stage of our lifes.
Example If you put a eye patch on one eye of a baby for a year, that eye will go "dead" because during the crucial development stage the eye was not used.

But if you put an eye patch on an adult for year there will be know change to the eye because the eye was already fine tuned during the first 3 yrs.

What Im trying to get at is what if we didnt use our speech to our fullest abilities for what ever reason and our process to produce speech was altered.

So while that connection might have gotten weaker we grew stronger in other areas.

So you stutter but what are you great mentally?
Could be math, being creative, drawing etc.

check out the documentary here
http://www.hulu.com/watch/122907/explorer-science-of-babies

Well, tomorrow, it's the starting of the new trimester, which means all new teachers for me. And, for some odd reason, my teachers have the nerve to make us students introduce ourselves everytime. The last trimester didn't, but it's like the fear of the unknown.

I tried asking my dad to write me notes so he could explain the situation to them, but when I started tearing up, he walked outta the room. He's not very supportive.

Does anyone have any adivce or tips I could use to make tomorrow a better day for me?

...Thanks. I'm not use to asking other stutter's this kinda stuff, so all the help would be cool.

Hey there everyone, I'm Tim. I decided to try something new with my stuttering so I came here in hopes of sharing stories and getting to know others who stutter. I've never met any one who stutters before, so this should be an interesting experience. When I stutter, it seems to happen most if I explaining something or telling a story. Also the phone is my bane as is reading allowed. My stuttering also goes in seasons. There will be months where it seems that I'm with out blocks, and then there are times where I just cant speak at all. I've been stuttering all my life, and I accept it as a part of my character. I would not be me with out it. I hope to talk to you all soon!!

I have stuttered as long as I can remember, in fact my father stutters too. Althought, dispite that he told me that I just have to get over it. Easier said than done. I started speech in the 1st grade and a year later I was classified as having a learning disability. Fast forward 15 years full of avoidance of social situations and low self esteem. I eventually become more I am currently in a gradute program hoping to become an Occupational Therapist, but I find myself more concerned with my stutter than previously. I am getting the itch to retreat and run for the hills. Meanwhile I love my program I am just scared, mostly because of my ability to communicate with my future clients and peers. But I have become inspired by some stories I have seen on this site as well as watching MTV's truelife: i stutter

As you should know my ideas are many and my theories are never ending.

I was reading somewhere on a post about wheather stuttering was a reflex action,
and that got me thinking.

Reflex action to me goes back to primal instinct really.
So that is how my idea came, Primal instinct took me to the thought of The beginning of man.

What if stuttering has been around since people first learned language.People didnt always speak in what we would call words, they spoke in weird sounds, ticks, howels and all that stuff.

Maybe people that stutter had a stong role to play in how man evolved and developed language.-Of course that depends on if your religious
What If our ancestors were some of the first people, the beginning people that didnt develop language as the others did? Because they were to old but as younger generations came there way of speaking changed.
